What is LyricalFlow?

A Flexibility, Balance and Dance class, with closing Mindfulness (ready for a good night's sleep!)
Everyone needs to stretch, right? A lot, in all different ways, to keep their body's working well and release built up stresses and tensions in the tissues. What if yoga wasn't the only option for stretching, and we could dance for an hour, hitting all the areas that need a good stretch, instead?
Class format: Standing dance-stretch tracks, a warm-up then building in muscular depth as we go. Around 3 tracks on the mat/floor (removing the balance element!).
A closing mindfulness meditation (wrap up warm as your heart rate slows - blankets are welcome!).
Please bring your own mat/towel to do floorwork on!
Is LyricalFlow for me?

I've been teaching this programme, under a different name, for 9 years now, and clients have said to me "it's like zumba and yoga had a baby". For me, it's more than that. If music and dancing make you feel good, the POWER of stretching to music, of moving at taking up space in a way that compliments the track (and we use a range of music genres!) you can feel something more than just your muscles releasing.
Stretching style is mostly Dynamic Stretching - we do have some stretches we hold a little longer to develop flexibility at the peak of class, but mostly we are moving in and out of the range available to each of us. THIS MEANS if there are any shapes your body doesn't like, not only can I give you alternatives, but we are never in one shape for very long before we've flowed into the next. We don't all need to do the same thing, it's about finding what your body needs, and that's what makes LyricalFlow magic.
IMPORTANT: If you don't like dancing, or the idea of dancing, this won't be the flexibility class for you.
If you have no dance experience but would like more dancing in your life, this IS the class for you (and also seasoned dancers).
What is Zumba Fitness?

Inclusive dance-fitness session designed to get your heart pumping and get you moving to music.
It's good for the body, good for the soul, and if you like music it's one of the best and uplifting forms of mindfulness - shake any stresses you have away.
Everyone is welcome with no dance experience or minimum fitness level required. So versatile that it's perfect for cross-training an active runner/weight trainer, or someone just getting into exercise.
Music is a mix of worldwide styles, but all designed to lift your spirits and want to move that body.
Is Zumba Fitness for me?

Never tried Zumba? I teach without a microphone ("the Zumba way"!) so it's a case of limited instruction, "do what you see" - there's no way to "get it wrong" if you're there and you're moving ❤️.
In 16 years of teaching Zumba, I pride myself on (somehow!) attracting the most inclusive groups of participants, resulting in a truly lovely atmosphere for letting yourself loose. I really have seen it all, and I LOVE seeing it all. There are no mirrors, and everyone is so busy watching me for the next move, no one is watching each other despite everyone shaking their stuff.
I won't judge you, if you don't judge me! 😉 Let's have some fun 🎵
What do I wear/bring?

For Zumba: Wear something you can move in that allows you to sweat, and trainers on your feet. Bring drinking water and your energy!
For LyricalFlow: Wear something you can move enough in to reach your full stretching potential! Bare feet or grippy socks (recommended, esp. in winter). Bring layers so you can adapt with change of heart rate (not a particularly sweaty session). Do bring a mat/towel for floor stretches and drinking water.
With repetition comes mastery!

It's not a sales ploy! In both classes I change only one track, two max., per week, so that familiarity with moves and music builds.
This means that your first class might feel like a brain workout, as you get to know me and my gesturing for the next move, but by week 3 you'll be feeling it much more in your body with coordination success (and by your 6th week, able to correct me if i miss a beat!?).
